Ask about upcoming activities →Volunteers helped build BAS: its published history of volunteering describes the first fifteen years as entirely volunteer-run. Internships and volunteering remain ways to contribute time, learning and practical skills.
The published application identifies office administration, environmental education, community outreach, protected-area management, and photography or writing as internship interests. Tell BAS your availability, experience and goals; a place is not guaranteed by downloading the form.
Application pack · September 2021 ↗The volunteering guide welcomes Belizeans and international applicants, with selection and an office orientation before placement. Marine roles call for dive certification, sufficient diving experience and an interest in research. Terrestrial placements can involve rustic accommodation, strenuous fieldwork and challenging jungle conditions. Office-based placements are in Belize City. Discuss your skills and any accommodations you need with the team.
Read the document ↗The published guide asks foreign volunteers for at least three months, with some placements requiring longer, and expects volunteers to cover personal expenses. Internships range from three weeks to six months and require affiliation with an established university or institution. Placement depends on qualifications and program needs. These are the 2021 guide’s terms; confirm the current arrangement before committing travel or study plans.
Read the document ↗Conservation also needs teaching, tourism and marketing, community and small-business development, economics, finance and administration. The volunteer guide welcomes these backgrounds alongside protected-area management and biodiversity research. Tell the team what you can offer and what you hope to learn so that a placement can fit both your skills and the organization’s needs.
Read the document ↗The September 2021 pack includes separate intern and volunteer applications, insurance information and a liability release. It asks for references and supporting documents. Confirm the current requirements and submission method with BAS before sending personal information.
Contact the volunteer team ↗For university applicants, the 2021 pack requests two professional references, a one-page personal statement, a CV showing relevant study and experience, a professor’s recommendation and a police record dated within one month before the placement starts. It also asks about availability, academic credit and program interests. Complete the appropriate application, insurance and release forms and confirm the submission arrangements with BAS; do not upload these personal documents to the demo.
